In the middle of the county is the beautiful city of Oxford, known as the City of Dreaming Spires it offers lots of history and the chance to do a tour round the colleges of the university
Blenheim Palace is the magnificent home to the Duke of Marlborough. Open in the Summer 7 days a week, it has lovely grounds to walk in as well as the opportunity to visit Winston Churchill's birthplace, the palace itself. He is buried just outside the estate in the village of Blaydon.
The grounds also offer a miniature railway, butterfly house and adventure playground.Set in the quaint town of Woodstock, the town also offers several places to eat and browse around the small shops.

At the north end of the county, Banbury also has it's own stately home, Broughton Castle, home to Lord and Lady Saye and Sele. This is open Wednesday and Sunday afternoons during the summer months. It was here that much of the planning against Oliver Cromwell was done during the civil war and the castle still holds evidence of this.
Just over the Warwickshire border, not more than about 6-7 miles from Broughton Castle is the famous site of the Battle of Edge Hill.
Whilst camping with us in the northern part of the county, it also offers the opportunity to hop over the border to Warwickshire and visits the Historic town of Stratford upon Avon, birthplace to William Shakespeare.
To the south, at Didcot, is the famous Steam Railway Centre. They are open on a regular basis during the summer and hold several 'Thomas the Tank Engine' days, which we hope will be of added interest to our younger campers.
The town of Abingdon boasts the smallest 'jail' in England, situated by the bridge over the river Thames it only holds enough room for one person! (Obviously the crime rate was very low in this area!). Regular river trips run from here to Oxford along the beautiful countryside around this area.
Millets farm at Abingdon has one of the largest 'Maize' Mazes, when the crop is growing; each year is a different theme and is always great fun!
At North Leigh, near the blanket town of Witney is the remains of a Roman villa. Much of Oxfordshire shows the signs of the Roman occupation, and 'Akeman St' a roman road is still walk able for several miles near North Leigh.
Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford offers a lovely day out for families of all ages to see lots of different animals of all sizes, take a picnic or eat out in the restaurant whilst there.
Just over the border to the west is Bourton-on-the-Water, a must for all our young campers as 'Brum' lives here in the motor museum.
The very pretty village which has a stream running right down the main street also boasts a model village and Birdland.
